Digital support for PPWR obligations – introducing the ‘Check for Recycling’ tool
Interzero’s latest digital tool – Check for Recycling – is now available in Polish. Thanks to this update, packaging manufacturers can prepare EU declarations of conformity, assess the recyclability of packaging and manage documentation more quickly, conveniently and without any barriers, including language barriers.
What is ‘Check for Recycling’?
Check for Recycling is a tool designed for packaging manufacturers who wish to comply with the current requirements of the PPWR Regulation. It allows you to to gather information in one place about packaging that is manufactured or ordered, and on that basis generate EU declarations of conformity which meet the requirements set out in Annex VIII to the PPWR Regulation.
By using Check for Recycling, manufacturers can also prepare for future legal obligations, particularly those relating to the recyclability of packaging. Based on the data collected, the tool automatically assesses recycling performance and assigns packaging to the appropriate categories – A, B or C*.
*Pending the adoption of binding delegated acts by the European Commission, calculations and classification are carried out in accordance with the German ZSVR minimum standard – the most advanced and comprehensive standard for assessing recyclability.
A simple interface for creating EU declarations of conformity
Check for Recycling enables you to quickly and conveniently draw up an EU declaration of conformity and all the technical documentation required to demonstrate compliance. As a reminder, from 12 August 2026, in EU Declaration of Conformity Information must be provided on compliance with the requirements regarding the presence of potentially hazardous substances (for all packaging) and PFAS limits (only for packaging intended to come into contact with food). The tool helps to identify and gather all the information required to confirm compliance with current requirements, and then uses them to prepare the documentation.
Thanks to its user-friendly navigation and Polish-language prompts, Check for Recycling guides the user step by step through the entire process – from entering source data, through analysing the composition of the packaging, to generating a complete EU declaration of conformity that meets the applicable requirements of the PPWR Regulation. Once developed Declarations and other documents are saved in the user’s account, meaning they can be edited at any time and made available to business partners and supervisory authorities.
Packaging database and digital portfolio
Check for Recycling enables the creation of a detailed database of information on the entire portfolio of packaging produced, including its types (as defined in the PPWR Regulation), materials, sizes, weights, layer structure, components and other elements. This data enables the creation of digital twins of packaging – virtual models used, amongst other things, to assess recycling efficiency and to carry out analyses and comparisons. The user can edit and modify the parameters of each packaging component, as well as assign the same component to many different packaging items (e.g. a specific cap used to seal bottles of various capacities, made from different materials).
The packaging items in the virtual database can also be grouped into folders, filtered and sorted, for example, by type, packaging material or country of destination, which makes it easier to browse the portfolio, compare solutions and plan changes to their designs.

Assessment of recycling and support in preparing for future PPWR requirements
Although the regulations on assessing recycling performance and classifying packaging into categories A, B or C will apply from 1 January 2030 at the earliest, the ‘Check for Recycling’ tool already enables producers to to carry out an initial assessment and plan activities more effectively, which need to be taken in the coming months and years.
Based on the data entered by the user, Check for Recycling automatically analyses the recyclability of packaging and generates an easy-to-understand analysis report. It contains the result expressed as a percentage and as a grade of A, B or C. It also points out:
- factors limiting the recyclability of packaging,
- areas requiring improvement,
- guidance on how to optimise packaging.
Once the report has been received, the user can easily contact Interzero’s Polish experts for assistance in interpreting the results, planning material and design changes, and carrying out further tests in Interzero Plastics Innovations Centre of Excellence.
NOTE: The assessment carried out is based on the German minimum standard 2025/26 ZSVR and does not replace the target recycling efficiency assessment to be carried out in accordance with the criteria to be set out in the European Commission’s delegated acts. Once the European Commission’s delegated acts, adopted pursuant to Article 6(4) of the PPWR Regulation, have been published, the ZSVR methodology will be replaced by the definitive methodology specified by the European Commission.
