Recycling plastic? Solid foundation
These are the hidden champions of sustainability: companies that were the first to implement new technologies and have long used recycled raw materials in many of their products. Quietly, effectively and with conviction. Such as, for example, Akzenta Paneele + Profile GmbH.
From Eifel to the rest of the world: floor coverings made of CERAMIN® can be found wherever the material needs to be durable, sustainable and conducive to a healthy lifestyle - from kindergartens in Germany to shopping malls in the USA. Akzenta, part of the CLASSEN Group, produces this material at its Kaisersesch site. Importantly, CERAMIN® is a low-emission, fully recyclable product that does not contain PVC or plasticisers. Recycled materials also make up more than two-thirds of its polymer input.
Closing the loop - climate protection: The regranulate used, recythen, is produced by Interzero from post-consumer plastic packaging in an award-winning process. Researchers at the Fraunhofer UMSICHT institute have calculated that using one tonne of recythen instead of virgin plastics saves 1.1 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions and 22,254 kWh of primary energy.

How important are sustainable products to your business?
The family-owned companies in the CLASSEN Group do not see sustainability and resource conservation as trends to be followed, but as the foundation of our business. Even during the development phase of our CERAMIN® product, we took into account issues such as recyclability and the use of environmentally friendly materials.
What quality standards do you set for these recycled materials?
Above all, the quality levels must comply with those specified in our technical requirements profile. Our experience with the recythen used has been exclusively positive, with no non-conformities found in any delivery to date. In addition to meeting our stringent quality standards, post-consumer polypropylene is also very easy to process in our production systems.
