Interzero publishes results of 'resources SAVED by recycling 2023' report

On 18-20 September, the 11th edition of the Interzero Environmental Conference took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Sopot, under the theme Pillars of Circularity. The event brought together a wide range of environmental experts, sustainability and GOZ industry leaders and business representatives. Participants in this year's edition had the opportunity to listen to dozens of interesting lectures and 2 debates discussing the threats and opportunities presented by the bail-in system and PPWR.

Yesterday, i.e. on 13 March at 1 p.m., a debate entitled "Are we ready to implement the bail system in Poland?" organised by PAP Biznes took place. The event was attended on behalf of Interzero by Paweł Sosnowski, board representative for environmental regulation.

As a reminder, by 31 March 2024, the operator of an installation or aircraft operator is required to submit a verified annual report for 2023, i.e. an annual emissions report together with a verification report, to the National Balancing and Emissions Management Centre (NERC).

On 7 March, a press conference was held at which Anita Sowinska, Deputy Minister for Climate and Environment, spoke about the proposed changes to the bail system.

The 9th European Congress of Local Governments was held in Mikolajki on 4-5 March 2024. Paweł Lesiak, Vice President of the Management Board, participated in the event on behalf of Interzero. The theme of this year's edition was 'The future of the idea of decentralisation in a changing world'.

Why is Extended Producer Responsibility an important topic for bail scheme participants? What role will municipalities play in the system? What will the PPWR directive change? Without effective recycling, we will not meet our obligations to close the recycling loop, with the threat of heavy fines. However, we can take action today instead of waiting idly for change.

Due to a resolution of the Boards of Directors of the Interzero Group companies in Poland, all Interzero offices are closed on 26 Januaryb.

More and more countries in Europe are opting to introduce a deposit system, and in Poland, deposit collection of beverage packaging is set to take effect as early as 2025.
As a result, many retail chains are opting for automated collection of beverage packaging. One company that has benefited from our assistance in this area is the Eurocash Group. Thanks to our cooperation, on 1 February 2023, we launched the first Sielaff SiCompact XL bottle machine in the Delikatesy Centrum chain. The device, of which we are the distributor in Poland, can be seen live in a shop in Bemowo, Warsaw.

Carrefour Poland 2023 took place on 29-30, an event for the chain's suppliers and franchise partners.
We were present there with our Sielaff bottle dispensers, specifically the SiCompact XL and Eco M models. We had numerous discussions behind us concerning not only our machines, but above all preparations for the deposit system and current legal changes.

The Pulse of Literature Festival is an annual cultural event where authors, readers, publishers and other literature lovers come together to participate in discussions, presentations, readings and other activities related to books and literature. OMV has announced an investment decision to build an innovative sorting plant developed by Interzero to produce raw materials for chemical recycling. The sorting plant will be the first of its kind to produce OMV's chemical recycling raw materials on a large industrial scale.

At the end of September, a dozen parent-child pairs solved puzzles and learnt more about the idea of a closed loop economy. The workshop was conducted as part of the Re:generation programme, implemented by Interzero Organisation for Packaging Recovery and UNEP/GRID Warsaw.

Turning Point is the first educational centre in Poland based on the puzzle room formula. The new place was created in Warsaw, is aimed at young people and talks about the impact of the world of fashion and packaging on the planet. The Interzero Group and the Mamy Projekt collective are responsible for the project.

On 23 September, the Polish finale of World Cleanup Day, the global cleanup campaign organised by the environmental movement Let's Do It World and Planet Heroes, took place. Interzero became a partner of the event.

According to data from Interzero's report 'We're Packing Trouble' from April 2023. "We pack in the hassle" in April 2023, only 51% Poles separate their waste into five fractions (bio, plastic and metal, paper, glass and mixed). Many people still do not know where to throw away, for example, a milk carton or a shop receipt.

As part of the event, we will be showcasing a selection of eco-devices that support the circular economy (including: the Sielaff Bottle Machine, the PEL BriteBin solar bin or the Oklin composting machine) and the Interzero Waste Platform.

16 September marks World Cleanup Day - the biggest environmental holiday of the year. On this day, rubbish collections are organised all over the country and events are co-organised for residents in major cities together with local authorities.

Together with the Carlsberg Group, we are creating the '1 instead of 1,000' project, which raises awareness of how our everyday decisions are shaping a more sustainable future.

Last Thursday (17.08.2023), we met with entrepreneurs for whom the obligations under the bail-in system present some challenges. The law will soon go to the President's desk, so those affected by the new order need to prepare their businesses quickly for the changes.
