A model already proven in practice for waste management in logistics and distribution
Waste management at logistics and distribution centres offers considerable scope for cost and process optimisation. Years of experience in this sector have enabled us to develop a set of ready-to-deploy waste services that address common industry challenges and deliver measurable financial, operational and environmental benefits. They include proven methods for handling large packaging waste streams, carefully planned waste logistics, optimisation of waste storage areas, selection of infrastructure such as machinery and containers, and treatment of products that cannot be sold.
Each ready-to-deploy Interzero service is a proprietary, carefully developed method for managing one waste stream or multiple fractions, already proven in other organisations. We therefore know how to organise each part of the process, what infrastructure it requires and where potential difficulties may arise. For each new implementation, we adapt the model already proven in practice to the company's the conditions at the site, allowing the new process to be launched more efficiently while reducing risk of disruption.
A ready-made model means faster implementation, lower operational risk and predictable results, as demonstrated by previous projects. For international manufacturers, an additional benefit is the ability to use the same tried-and-tested solution in other countries, whilst adapting it to local legal requirements and market conditions.
Our waste management solutions can be implemented as standalone services or as part of a wider environmental management package for a site, retail outlets or the entire company. Tobacco product manufacturers can also gradually expand their partnership with Interzero, starting with the launch of a single process or the management of a single waste stream, and over time building a suite of services best suited to their individual needs.
We integrate the ready-made service into the company’s existing waste management processes, tailoring its scope to the scale of its operations, the organisation of the site and local conditions. We are planning to make changes to minimise the risk of disruption to production, waste logistics and the operation of waste storage areas. By utilising a previously developed operational framework, the client does not need to design a new process from scratch, and the solutions implemented begin to deliver tangible, real benefits within a short space of time.
Each of our ready-made waste models is based on tried-and-tested technologies, well-developed logistics and the experience we have gained from real-world implementations carried out at automotive companies and plants. The effectiveness of these solutions is confirmed by concrete results: hundreds of tonnes of difficult-to-recycle waste sent for recycling, thousands of components verified during service campaigns, or a reduction in the costs of managing selected waste streams by as much as 70%.
A single service provider for every stream: from packaging to defective products
Managing waste and coordinating the work of all subcontractors can place a significant operational burden on logistics centres. To minimise the use of in-house resources and optimise expenditure on waste management, it is advisable to entrust the entire waste management process to experts. For companies in the logistics and distribution sector We have developed a waste management outsourcing service for individual sites and across the entire network. This is a fully-fledged operational model, under which We take responsibility for managing all waste streams, including the organisation and coordination of collection, the selection of processing technologies and equipment, and the documentation and reporting of processes.
The model can be implemented both at a single site and within an extensive network, and its scope can be expanded to include, amongst other things, the selection of waste compaction machinery, ongoing environmental consultancy and the management of supervised product destruction. In each of these cases Interzero acts as the central operator for the entire process waste management, and is responsible for monitoring the market and ensuring the most favourable prices for logistics services and the purchase of raw materials. Our waste management system also includes support with settlements with subcontractors – Interzero’s experts organise tenders for external service providers and then verify all invoices. This enables clients to optimise costs and processes across their entire organisation.
The service has been designed to combine routine waste management with the handling of jobs that cannot be planned in advance. In addition to regular waste streams (mainly cardboard and plastic film) It also covers new and non-standard fractions, as well as the one-off disposal of damaged, withdrawn or unsaleable products. In this way, the company gains a permanent infrastructure to manage both regular, predictable and non-standard waste management needs, without having to search for a suitable recipient or facility on a case-by-case basis.

1,800 collections from 40 locations – an Interzero client client success story
The initial problem:
The logistics company was looking for a way to reduce costs and streamline the management of packaging waste generated at nearly 40 warehousing and distribution centres across the country. To improve the company’s profitability following a recent merger and to standardise processes across all sites, a thorough reorganisation and optimisation of the entire waste management system was required. An additional challenge was posed by one-off disposals of various products – ranging from foodstuffs to electronics, chemicals and other hazardous substances – which each of the company’s branches handled independently. The previous way in which this was organised raised formal and legal concerns, so it was necessary to standardise the procedures for handling such requests and place them under central supervision.
Our solution:
We have implemented a consistent and transparent waste management model across all the company’s sites. To streamline the work of our waste management staff, we have installed compacting machines (baling machines and compactor bins) at some sites. To ensure competitive pricing for our clients, we regularly organise tenders for the collection and management of the most common waste fractions (primarily packaging waste). We also prepare individual quotations and offers for the management of new types of waste, including the disposal of unsaleable products. For all these services, the client settles accounts directly with the suppliers on the basis of invoices verified and approved by Interzero. In addition to cost documents, we also manage the company’s other waste-related documentation, prepare the required reports and statements, and provide confirmation of the management of waste and products. We also provide ongoing advisory services and support the client in resolving issues relating to the entire field of environmental protection.
Result:
The client entrusted a single organisation – Interzero – with the coordination of waste management across all its sites (over 1,800 collections per year), thereby gaining a single point of contact for more than 40 different waste fractions and a consistent standard of service across the entire network. Thanks to the tenders organised by Interzero and its supervision of invoices from subcontractors, the client has managed to significantly reduce waste management costs. It has also ensured the ability to conveniently commission the destruction and recycling of unsaleable products without worrying about regulatory compliance or potential legal risks on the part of the owners of these products.

FAQ
The best approach is to centralise waste management and entrust the coordination of tasks to a single operator, who will ensure consistent standards across all sites. This makes it possible to standardise the rules for waste sorting, collection and management, to consolidate documentation and reporting, and to maintain control over waste management costs across the entire network. In the case of new or non-standard waste streams, working with a single, comprehensive adviser eliminates the need to search for a suitable waste recipient independently and makes it easier to ensure that waste is managed correctly and in accordance with the regulations.
As part of our services for logistics and distribution centres, we provide a centralised waste management model covering multiple sites belonging to the same owner. Supervision of collection organisation, logistics planning and cooperation with subcontractors is carried out by Interzero’s experienced experts, who also support the client’s waste management staff in carrying out their day-to-day tasks. All data on waste, collections and costs is available in one place, with the option to group it into reports or break it down by individual locations.
Costs can be reduced by streamlining waste management, regularly comparing quotes from waste collection providers and reducing the volume of waste prior to transport. In the case of large waste streams (e.g. cardboard and plastic film), it is worth organising tenders, which allow the full scale of the network to be utilised and the most favourable terms of cooperation to be secured. Installation of high-performance balers and container presses In waste collection zones, it also reduces the frequency of collections and allows for more efficient use of space in waste storage facilities and in the load compartments of waste collection vehicles.
Yes. On behalf of our clients, we organise recycling processes for packaged products and select processing technologies that enable a high level of material recovery to be achieved.
The basis is adjustment of collection frequencies of individual fractions to the volume of waste generated at a given site. Our experience shows that companies in the logistics and distribution sector most commonly use two models: waste collections carried out according to a fixed schedule (ideal for sites generating relatively constant volumes and weights of individual waste fractions) and on-demand waste collections, arranged as and when required and as containers in storage areas fill up. Interzero offers the implementation of both these models, as well as an intermediate model based on a fixed schedule with the option to order ad hoc logistics services, e.g. via the Interzero Waste Platform.
To optimise waste management, It is worth compacting cardboard and plastic film in balers or compactors, which limits their volume, the number of deliveries and logistics costs. Where there are multiple collection points, it is also worth coordinating collections under a single service model and on the basis of common terms negotiated with the recipients.
Yes. We organise and carry out collections of waste subject to ADR regulations. We can provide this type of service on a regular basis as a permanent feature of the waste management service for a plant or network of warehouses, or on an ad hoc basis as one-off orders, which are quoted for and carried out upon the customer’s request.
