Batteries and rechargeable batteries are used by society every day - from small devices like torches, phones, toys or laptops to larger mechanisms like lawnmowers and cars. However, few people realise how dangerous it is to dispose of them incorrectly when they run out.<\/p>\n

Interzero has developed an animation to show the problem in an accessible way, demonstrating the consequences of disposing of used batteries and accumulators in, for example, mixed waste. Batteries and accumulators are a source of many heavy metals such as lead, mercury, nickel and zinc. These components are not neutralised in the environment, and their release poses a serious threat to the entire ecosystem. Some raw materials can lead to soil and groundwater contamination.<\/p>\n
